Jungle Jumparoo

Last week I was introduced to a new product soon to be launched to the public. It’s called the Jungle Jumparoo. Autism Journeys used to have a similar product for their clients in the occupational therapy room of their facility. I can remember Cali loving to jump and play on this therapy tool. This product is for all kids young and old, not just autistic children. On their site you can find the quote, “A wild way to bounce!” Let me explain, in my nonprofessional opinion, why I think “a wild way to bounce” is great for most all autistic kids, as well as neurotypical kids:

1. Builds social interaction.

2. Promotes fine and gross motor skills.

3. Creates an avenue for fun conversations (speech/communication).

4. Keeps the child engaged.

5. Great tool to use in play therapy  (one-on-one or in a group setting).

The five points above, with the exception of number two, are effective when a peer or an adult is present with the child.

For a more professional opinion, here is what they have to say about jumping and autism:

Tests have linked bouncing with positive benefits for children with autism. The sheer fun and sense of well-being encourages vestibular system input, which controls movement and balance as well as awareness of body positioning. Bouncing also assists with motion feedback, how the body responds to movement through space and perception.

Jumping and balancing on a  Jungle JumpaRoo™ while holding onto the secure and sturdy bars can help physical sensory integration with the body’s different systems, unlike the traditional trampoline. This is an added benefit for children with sensitive sensory input. Allowing friends, siblings and neighborhood kids to jump together will also provide a social benefit for the child.

Right now this product is featured on Kickstarter, a website designed to help get products up and running. Here is what the owners have to say about Kickstarter and what it means exactly:

“Kickstarter is a website that features products before they come out to the market. People can “back the project” and receive the product if they want at a discount before they hit retail, or make a pledge of any $ for a reward like a T-shirt, hoodie or the product itself ect… Then, that money goes to fund the product to manufacture it and get it out to the masses. It’s the coolest site ever and seems to be super popular, especially since business loans have come to a sluggish halt in this economy. You can pledge $1, $10, $100 or whatever you want. Here is the catch, Kickstarter is all or nothing. (yikes!) There is a goal set and if we don’t hit that goal by June 30, then we don’t get the funding and no one gets the product.”

If you’re wondering how you can help, here is how:

“If you think this product is cool, or if you have jumped on it before, or want to jump on it, or you want kids to be healthy and active. If you have kids, know kids or are a big kid yourself, watch our video! Then please share this with your FB friends so that people can see the video to see if they want to jump in with us! Go team! If you have already shared it or pledged, THANK YOU and good karma to you!”

I have pledged and hope to receive our very own Jungle Jumparoo by June 30th!!!! Or soon thereafter!
